Foundation For Our Finances

November 7th, 2018|Categories: Financial Freedom|

Dear Cornerstone Family, There is a great difference between knowledge and wisdom. There are many times in my life when I know what the right thing is to do, but I don’t always do it. I know I should spend less and have financial margin; I know I should make good decisions at work and in my personal life; I know I should spend more time reading my Bible and praying (just to mention a few). Our problem isn’t knowledge; it’s learning how to apply knowledge in our everyday lives. That’s when knowledge becomes wisdom. One of the biggest questions we must answer to become wiser is to whom or what will we place our trust in? If you are like me, I want to say I fully trust in God for everything; but there have been many times where my trust has been in my strength (which is getting [...]

I Will Practice Forgiveness

October 31st, 2018|Categories: I Will|

Dear Cornerstone Family, This Sunday, we will wrap up our relationship building series with the topic of forgiveness. Since forgiveness doesn’t come naturally, we need to practice it daily, so we don’t let our hurts get deeply rooted. If we can be honest, we all struggle with this topic. Who do we forgive? How often do we forgive? When we forgive others, are we giving them a license to continue to hurt us? Forgiveness. We all want it. We all want to be forgiven by God, but when someone wrongs us, we want justice. The same grace that saves us also teaches us to forgive others. In Colossians 3:12-13 (NLT) we read, “Since God chose you to be the holy people He loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Make allowance for each other’s faults and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord [...]

I Will Show Respect

October 24th, 2018|Categories: I Will|

Dear Cornerstone Family, Everyone has a need to be loved and to be respected. We often give love and respect towards people who love and respect us, but God raises the bar. 1 Peter 2:13-15 ( NLT2) tells us, “For the Lord’s sake, respect all human authority—whether the king as head of state, or the officials he has appointed. For the king has sent them to punish those who do wrong and to honor those who do right. It is God’s will that your honorable lives should silence those ignorant people who make foolish accusations against you.” How do you show respect towards everyone? You do it with grace. You show honor and value them as people God loves.   Who in your life needs to be appreciated, valued and respected?   Following THE Leader with you, Pastor Ed Turley Cornerstone Church of Poway www.CornerstonePoway.com UPCOMING EVENTS Partnership Class: If [...]

I Will Demonstrate Love

October 17th, 2018|Categories: I Will|

Dear Cornerstone Family, Relationships are important and we all have areas where we can improve. This Sunday we will continue our relationship building series and look at how we can demonstrate love. In 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 we are taught, “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.” Through God we learn to demonstrate love to others. October is Pastor Appreciate Month, so this Sunday we will be taking a moment during service to let Pastor Ed, Pastor Dan and Pastor Joey know how much we love and appreciate them. We are so blessed to have selfless leaders here [...]

I Will Lead My Heart

October 10th, 2018|Categories: I Will|

Dear Cornerstone Family, There are things that we could, and we know that we should, do to improve our relationships. As people who follow Jesus, we are making a choice to say I will love, I will show respect, I will listen to understand, I will lead my heart, and I will forgive. This is a choice. It is a determination of our will to act in kindness and compassion and to forgive as God has forgiven us. Ephesians 4:32 tells us, “Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” Join us this Sunday as we learn how to lead our hearts to love God and to love others. Following Jesus, Pastor Ed Turley Cornerstone Church of Poway www.CornerstonePoway.com   UPCOMING EVENTS Joey Orate’s Ordination & Celebration- This Sunday! Join us at the 11 am service this Sunday, Oct. 14, for [...]

I Will Listen to Understand

October 3rd, 2018|Categories: I Will|

Dear Cornerstone Family, Relationships are important and we all have areas where we can improve. This Sunday we will begin a new series on relationship building called, “I Will.” This may be the most important series of the year. Each week I receive prayer requests for relationships that are broken, hurting, and in crisis. Whether you are married, single, divorced, re-married, or dating; there is no one who is immune to the difficulty of developing healthy relationships. The good news is that God gives us wisdom on how to improve our relationships. Through God’s love for us we learn how to love others. Therefore, 1 John 4:9b-12 (NIV) teaches us, “This is love: not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one [...]

The Message We Must Share

September 26th, 2018|Categories: Dare to Share|

Dear Cornerstone Family, What is the best news you have ever heard? Passed an important test? New job? She said, “yes”? You’re going to have a baby? Cancer free? These are all wonderful, but the best news of all is to know that you are forgiven and are guaranteed a home in heaven with God. We are given a message from God to share to a world that is hurting, broken and in need of hope. The message we are given to share is the Good News that Jesus paid for our sins with His life and offers us eternal life. Do you know this Good News? In John 3:16-17 (NIV) Jesus said, "For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send His Son into the world to [...]

Engage in Sharing

September 19th, 2018|Categories: Dare to Share|

Dear Cornerstone Family, You and I are asked to share God’s message of hope to people in our city. I recently read that 80% of Christians believe we have a responsibility to share our faith, but the sad truth is only 40% have shared their faith in the last 6 months. So, in other words, we believe it is important, but not important enough to share?   What holds you back from sharing your faith? I think for some of us we just don’t know how to bring it up.  Some of us are afraid of questions we may not be able to answer. Some of us have forgotten eternity is at stake. Some of us have forgotten how powerful the Gospel is. This Sunday we will discover how important it is to share our faith and how easy it really is to share. “For I am not ashamed of [...]

Employing Your Experiences

September 5th, 2018|Categories: SHAPE|

Dear Cornerstone Family, This weekend we will be wrapping up our series on SHAPE by talking about how God can use our experiences for His kingdom. It is amazing how God shapes us through our experiences for ministry. Whether it is success or tragedy, God can use it to mold us into the people He wants us to be. Sometimes, success may remind us of God’s blessings and other times it may leave us empty, feeling that there must be something more to this life. Sometimes a failure or a great loss may lead us to realize that there is so much we don’t have control over. This can bring us to a deeper dependence on God.    With each experience, we have a choice of how we respond to our circumstances. Our response will either give an excuse or encouragement to the next generation. In 2 Corinthians 1:8-10 (NLT2) [...]

The Purpose Of Your Personality

August 29th, 2018|Categories: SHAPE|

Dear Cornerstone Family, God has placed us here on this earth to fulfill many purposes but the greatest purpose in life is to love God. In Mark 12:30 (NIV) Jesus said, "Love the Lord your God with all your HEART and with all your SOUL and with all your MIND and with all your STRENGTH." God did not put you on this planet just to mark things off your to-do list. He put you here to learn to love Him with all your heart and soul and mind and strength.    Join us this weekend as we look at these four attributes and how they describe our personalities. We will discover the purpose and strengths of each of these personalities and how God uses them in the world.   Following THE Leader with you, Pastor Ed Turley Cornerstone Church of Poway www.CornerstonePoway.com UPCOMING EVENTS Ministry Fair As we continue to [...]
