Dear Cornerstone Family,
This weekend we will be looking at the ‘H’ in SHAPE, which is your Heart. Proverbs 27:19 (NLT) tells us, “As a face is reflected in water, so the heart reflects the real person.” Our heart reflects our interests, passions, and desires. We are not all wired the same way. Can God use us for His kingdom in the things we love? Absolutely! If you have a passion for sports- God could use you as a coach or a player. If you have a passion for music- God could use you as a support team or an artist. Wherever your heart beats the fastest- there is a way for God to use you to help encourage and speak hope into people’s lives.
Many people race through life seeking after fame and fortune. It’s all part of the American dream, but fame and fortune will never bring true satisfaction to our souls. Instead of trying to get as much as we can, Jesus challenges us to give our lives in serving others. In Matthew 20:26-28 (NLT) Jesus said, “But among you it will be different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first among you must become your slave. For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
So, if God wants us to serve others, who is God placing on your heart? Is it helping teens find love, acceptance, and purpose with Jesus? Is it helping our seniors discover that they are valued and loved? Is it helping children develop into mature young men and women who love God and others? Does your heart break for young women who just found out they are pregnant and don’t know what to do? Does your heart break for the millions who will go hungry tonight? Does your heart yearn to give hope for those who have suffered the pain and shame of addiction? Does your heart break for those who are going through the dark valleys of life? I could go on and on.
We are here for a greater purpose than just serving ourselves. We live in a broken and hurting world that needs the love of Jesus and God has placed in each of our hearts a desire to minister to others. Philippians 2:3-5 (NLT) reads, “Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too. You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.
Where is God leading your heart? What is holding you back?
Following THE Leader with you,
Pastor Ed Turley
